Degenerative Myelopathy
Degenerative Myelopathy is a condition which affects the spinal column and, ultimately, causes paralysis. Boxers are but one of many breeds which can be affected with this disease. There is some hypothesis that degenerative myelopathy is similar to ALS in humans.
Research
Current research on degenerative myelopathy includes:
-
Phenotypic Characterization of Peripheral Nerve Disease In DM Dogs
Researcher: Dr Joan Coates and funded by the American Boxer Charitable Foundation
-
Mapping Additional Genes Associated with Canine DM
Researcher: Dr. Kerstin Lindblah-Toh
DM research is on-going and it is important to support these researchers and their research.
